Bypass Pumping: sewer, pump station and emergency bypass for wastewater
What is bypass pumping?
|
Here is how bypass pumping works: pumps take flow from an upstream manhole or wet well, carry it through temporary pipework and discharge it downstream of the work area. Sulzer sizes the system for normal and peak flows, adds valves, flow meters and remote monitoring, and keeps it running for as long as your project needs. |
Bypass pumping, also called overpumping, is the temporary diversion of wastewater around a sewer section, pump station or treatment stage, so it can be repaired, inspected or upgraded without interrupting flow or causing spills. |
Bypass pumping services
Five services cover every stage of a sewer or pump station project.|
Sewer bypass pumping Planned sewer bypass pumping for rehabilitation, relining and line repairs, from a single manhole to a complete network section. We supply pumps, pipework and accessories as one package. |
Temporary pump stations When a pump or lift station is upgraded, a temporary pump station takes over its duty. Pumps, controls and pipework are sized to the existing station. |
Temporary flow diversion Temporary flow diversion for stormwater, culverts and waterways, so work can continue in dry conditions. For construction site drainage. |
|
Remote monitoring and flow control Level sensors, flow meters and alarms report in real time, so pumps react to changing flows and our team responds before a problem becomes a spill. |
Integrated temporary water treatment Combine bypass pumping with mobile wastewater treatment rental from the same supplier when a treatment stage also needs to be taken out of service. |
Emergency overpumping and flood response 24/7 standby from our hubs and an emergency bypass plan prepared in advance for municipalities and utilities. |
How we plan your sewer bypass
Wondering how to plan a sewer bypass? Every Sulzer project follows four engineered steps, from design to decommissioning.
Design
Site survey, hydraulic and flow modeling, and a bypass pumping plan for stormwater peak flow, so the system copes with normal, peak and storm conditions.
Installation
Pumps, pipework, valves and controls are installed and tested, with diesel or electric drives, standby pumps and automatic changeover, and with spill prevention and, where needed, odor control built into the layout.
Monitoring
Monitoring
Remote monitoring of levels, flows and pump status, with alarms and on-call support for the full duration of the bypass.
Decommissioning
When the work is finished, we return flow to the permanent system and remove all equipment from site.
