Expected to start up in 2028, the power station will capture up to two million tonnes of CO₂ annually for permanent storage offshore in the North Sea, representing a major step forward in the UK’s path to net zero.

As a global leader in separation solutions, Sulzer will design, manufacture and supply essential proprietary internals for the CC unit, including column internals and its high-efficiency MellapakCC™ technology.

Teeside power project with Sulzer carbon capture internals

The Teesside project kick-starts the UK’s strategically designated carbon capture and storage (CCS) clusters, designed to decarbonize industry through the collective capture and safe geological storage of industrial CO₂ emissions. Natural gas combustion remains central to energy security, and this project demonstrates how next-generation CCS can mitigate its carbon footprint at scale.

In this project, Technip Energies serves as the EPC contractor, leading a consortium with GE Vernova and local construction partner Balfour Beatty. The consortium is supported by technology partner Shell Catalysts & Technologies. NZT Power will utilise Technip Energies’ reliable post-combustion carbon capture solution Canopy by T.EN™ powered by Shell’s CANSOLV® CO₂ Capture System. Sulzer is an approved supplier of Technip Energies for carbon capture.
