Intelligent functions with advanced features

The PC 441 is a monitor and controller for one to four pumps, designed mainly for use in municipal wastewater pumping stations. The PC 441 has many advanced features to minimize operating costs and increase the availability of the pumping station throughout its life cycle.

Advanced features

Users can operate the PC 441 as a standalone monitoring unit. Alternatively they can run the AquaProg configuration software on a PC connected directly to the local service port or remotely, such as via modem. Settings are password-protected at two levels in order to avoid unauthorized or accidental changes.

Three additional units that can be connected for more advanced monitoring:

  • CA 441: Leakage monitoring unit for connecting four pumps with combined alarms or three separate alarms using one unit per pump.
  • CA 442: Temperature monitoring unit for connecting four pumps with combined alarms or four separate alarms using one unit per pump and a separate mA input for a vibration sensor.
  • CA 443: Electrical supply and consumption monitoring, as well as measuring device for a complete station and/or one per pump.

The PC 441 offers two possibilities for level sensing:

  • Connection of hydrostatic or other devices with 4 to 20 mA signal
  • Float switches

  • Flood control

  • Inlet pumping station
    Inlet pumping stations are somewhat similar to large terminal pumping stations. Depending on the depth of the incoming sewer, the lifting heads can range from around 2 up to 30 meters. To prevent hydraulic shock loads, which negatively impact the biological process, the stations often make use of variable-speed drives and/or several pumps in parallel.

  • Network pumping station
    Network pumping stations collect municipal wastewater from residential homes and communal schemes. Installed in dry or wet wells, the pumps deliver the effluent to a terminal pumping station. Since most pumping stations are not equipped with screens, the pumps must cope with difficult materials such as fibrous sanitary and packaging items.

  • Outlet pumping stations
    Outlet pumping stations are required when the level of the treatment plant is lower than that of the receiving water. This is especially true when discharging into a river, which can rise during heavy rain or flood periods, or into the sea, where the level varies with the tide. Outlet pumping stations may also be needed to compensate for increasing frictional losses in the outgoing pipe at high flows, for example in long sea outfall pipes.

  • Storm water pumping station
    During heavy rainfall, storm water pumping stations deliver large volumes of water at low head to receiving surface waters or sewers. Having long been a part of flood management, they are increasingly involved in climate adaptation strategies for low-lying coastal cities.

  • Storm water retention tank
    Storm water retention tanks act as a buffer during periods of heavy rainfall. This is increasingly important as areas become more developed, with hard surfaces such as roofs, roads and parking lots that cannot absorb the rainwater. When storm water retention tanks are implemented, gravity or pumps can be utilized to provide a reduced continuous flow into the sewer system. Sulzer expertise makes it possible to avoid peak hydraulic loads and to limit the stresses on existing sewer systems.

  • Terminal pumping station
    Terminal pumping stations receive municipal wastewater from network pumping stations. Installed in dry or wet wells, the pumps forward the medium to a treatment plant for final purification. Due to the lack of screens at most pumping stations, difficult materials such as fibrous sanitary and packaging items are a constant threat to uptime.

It can monitor one to four pumps with combined alarms (one alarm per pump) or up to four separate alarms using one unit per pump. The CA 442 can be connected to the PC 441 via a CAN-bus interface and can only be used in combination with the PC 441 monitoring/controller unit.

  • Motor and supply power monitoring module type ABS CA 443
    The CA 443 is an electrical property measuring device used either for a complete station or for a single pump. It can be connected to the PC 441 via a galvanic-isolated CAN-bus interface and can only be used in combination with the PC 441 monitoring/controller unit.

  • RS 485 communication module type ABS CA 622
    Communication module type ABS CA 622 allows you to send and receive information to your peripheral products via your existing pump controller PC 441 using a RS 485 Modbus interface.

  • Output expansion module type ABS CA 781
    With output expansion module CA 781 you can control an extended number of pumps with your existing PC 441 system.
