Approximately one-fifth of the global population lives in developed countries, accounting for half of the world’s energy consumption. Now that many developing countries are starting to experience rapid urbanization, energy across the world is growing even more.
Society is increasingly aware of the negative implications that come with a greater need for energy, primarily overexploitation of natural resources. Power plant companies are now stepping in and starting to invest in more environment-friendly technology that helps save energy and optimize their sites.
Sulzer can provide state-of-the-art technology that helps power plant operators meet growing demands as eco-efficiently as possible without compromising on performance., Division President Pumps Equipment
Save energy with our boiler feed water pumps
Based on environmental regulations and cost considerations, power generation companies strive to optimize the efficiency of their plants. Sulzer is reputably seen as a trusted and well-experienced partner for particularly challenging projects.
Stringent environmental regulations are changing the power generation landscape, globally. So you can increase your power generation while decreasing your environmental impact, our ultra-supercritical steam generation (USC) technology can help.
Latest developments in USC technology can generate steam at higher pressures and temperatures helping you increase the efficiency of your power plant., Division President Pumps Equipment
Sulzer’s boiler feed water pumps in practice: examples from China
China is the largest electricity producer in the world. One of China’s future power plants, the Shenhua Beihai Power Plant — which is currently under construction — will use advanced USC double-reheat technology (see diagram below).
The plant will use the largest block size in China, and it will be equipped with highly energy efficient boiler feed water pumps.
As a lead supplier of these efficient and reliable pumps in this sector, our Chinese customer ordered Sulzer’s HPT boiler feed water pumps for its plant. The requirements for modern coal-fired plants of this size are challenging. With the Beihai Power Plant operating at high temperatures as well as high pressures, the demands on the equipment are intense. Safety and consistent performance are therefore key. Our engineers have uniquely designed the pumps to meet these heavy-duty performance needs.
Ensuring maximum capacity and peak performance
Our company has supplied roughly 1 000 boiler feed water pumps for various power plants around the world from fossil plants to nuclear, biomass, and concentrated solar power plants. In terms of the Beihai plant in China, for example, the pumps we delivered were some of the largest boiler feed pumps we have ever manufactured — with a capacity of 2 840 tons per hour, a 500 bar discharge pressure, and shaft power of over 40 MW.
China is planning to build additional double-reheat power plants in the near future. As our company has been operating in the region for more than 100 years now, we have proven in-country experience where we are able to provide our customers with just the right solutions for their needs.
Sulzer has outstanding references with large boiler feed pumps around the world and the success full operation of the Shenhua Wanzhou 2 x 1 000 MW single-reheat power plant in China. We trust Sulzer’s technology, engineering, and manufacturing capabilities.
