Up in the sky or down on the seabed, Sulzer products often operate under extreme conditions. Sulzer develops adhesive application systems used in aircrafts — flying up to 12 000 m (32 800 feet) above the earth. Subsea pumps work up to 3 000 m (9 840 feet) below sea level. These conditions demand superlative reliability, longevity, and quality. Our engineers develop trendsetting ideas for these demanding areas of application. By implementing these solutions into standard products, we increase the reliability of all Sulzer products, and other industries benefit from these ideas as well.
Subsea pumps, for example, work under exceptionally challenging conditions — pumping fluids at high temperatures and high pressure. Sulzer has co-developed a new tilting pad bearing using carbon-fiber-reinforced PEEK as well as a new mechanical seal with a cooling jacket.
Reducing downtime in daily business allows our customers to get more out of their productive assets. With our advanced surveillance and monitoring system AquaWeb, customers have a comprehensive overview of their pump installations and can react faster in case of alarms.
An example of fast repair service can be found in Leeds, where our service center for turbomachinery repair took only eight weeks to fix a compressor that had suffered catastrophic damage. The compressor played a vital part in an important production process of a blue-chip company.
