The village Sluis in the Netherlands is a very popular touristic attraction and therefore the municipality of Sluis can not afford any blockages in the wastewater transportations. That is why they started a very intensive renovation of the system in 1998. There are over 70 pumping stations in Sluis, all equipped with two wastewater pumps. The renovation program aimed at replacing existing pumps and at further automating the pumping stations.

In areas with accommodations, such as camp sites and holiday parks, the wastewater has a great variety of pollutions since everything gets thrown into the sewer.
