Sulzer Publishes Sustainability Summary 2008

Sulzer released today its third full sustainability summary. The external auditor SGS confirmed its highest application level A+ of the Global Reporting Initiative. A systematic report, case studies, and comprehensive figures for all three dimensions of sustainability show that Sulzer has achieved or exceeded its economic, social, and ecological targets.

Sustainability is deeply rooted in Sulzer’s corporate vision and strategy. The summary 2008 is the first one audited by an external auditor. SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance) confirmed that Sulzer reports according to the highest Global Reporting Initiative G3 application level A+. The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is the most important global standard for sustainability reporting used by more than 1000 organizations in around 60 countries.

The Sulzer Sustainability Summary 2008 covers economic, social, and ecological aspects of sustainability with a systematic report and case studies. A corporate-wide database is the basis for assessing progress and setting new goals. Findings show, for instance, that the accident frequency rate was decreased by around 10%. This is the first step in the direction of the corporation’s long-term goal of reducing operational incidents to zero. Sulzer also reduced its ecological impact despite the high growth in production. Energy consumption per net value added, CO₂ emissions, and hazardous waste per employee were substantially lower in 2007 compared with the previous year.
