The Sulzer Sustainability Summary 2008 is based on the GRI G3 guidelines. In order to obtain an independent opinion and identify potential for improvement, the summary has been assessed for the first time by Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS). To support the verification process and enable an overview of relevant matters, a GRI content index has been compiled for the first time. The index shown in “related documents” was also a prerequisite for compliance with higher application levels of the GRI.

For each indicator, the content index shows where the relevant information has been published or gives additional information under “comments”. For the core indicators, a reference or at least a comment has been added. For additional indicators, references or comments have only been added if available.

Quantitative fulfillment of the GRI G3 indicators by Sulzer is shown below separately for core and additional indicators. The charts are structured according to the GRI G3 chapters. For evaluating each indicator, the following criteria have been used:

• If data are available in the Annual Report 2007 or the Sustainability Summary 2008, are published on the Internet, or have been added as comments, the score is one point.
• If requested data are only partially available in the Annual Report 2007 or the Sustainability Summary 2008 or on the Internet, the score is 0.25 points.
• If a comment has been added that provides qualitative information on the indicator, the score is 0.5 points.
