| Roadmap to Sustainability |
|
Ever since the foundation of Sulzer over 170 years ago, the continuous dialogue with stakeholders has been integral to Sulzer’s business.
Current Topics
Climate Change/ CO2: Sulzer tracks and reduces its CO2 emissions. However, direct CO2 emissions from the corporation’s own production processes are small. Sulzer’s most important contribution related to climate issues is, therefore, to offer its customers more resource-efficient and environment-friendly products and services. Critical Countries: From time to time, Sulzer supplies products or services to countries considered as critical, provided that this supply is in line with legal regulations and only if Sulzer, after carefully analyzing the project at issue, concludes that the supply of products or services is beneficial to the population of the respective country(e.g., for infrastructure projects). Employees in Emerging Countries: Corporate guidelines on working conditions are applied at all Sulzer sites worldwide. Sulzer treats all employees fairly. In the absence of sufficient legal protection regarding social, environmental, and health and safety issues at local sites, Sulzer applies its own best practice principles. Equal Opportunity: Sulzer is committed to offering equal opportunities to all employees regardless of national or ethnic origin, gender, or other differentiating characteristics. In 2008, an initiative was started to find ways to increase the number of female managers. Human Rights: The Sulzer Code of Business Conduct addresses human rights topics. It was established in 2003, is signed by all employees, and is regularly trained. Lawsuits Against Sulzer: Lawsuits against Sulzer include asbestos claims against two subsidiaries in the USA. The corporation is convinced that these cases will have no adverse material impact on its liquidity, its financial condition, or on the results of operations. Sulzer is also one of many codefendants in an apartheid-related class action pending in the USA. The corporation has no knowledge of any infringement of applicable laws and will defend its case vigorously. Recruiting: Given tight labor markets, Sulzer is currently reviewing and refining its employer brand to position itself as a preferred employer in selected labor markets. Recruitment at universities will be intensified.
