Key Social Targets and Achievements

Targets
With the long-term goal of zero occupational accidents, Sulzer set a more stringent target for the accident frequency rate (AFR)—it should be under 4.5 by 2010. The voluntary attrition rate should not exceed 6%. The focused succession management strives to fill 70% of vacant leadership positions with internal candidates.

Achievements
The reduction of the AFR from 7.7 to 5.5 in 2009 highlights the overall effectiveness of Sulzer’s safety programs. The voluntary attrition rate amounted to 4.5% in 2009. In the same year, 79% of leadership positions were filled with internal candidates.
