Sulzer Pumps Successfully String-Tests the Worlds Largest Centrifugal Injection Pump (22/11/2004, Technical News)
The world’s largest centrifugal injection pump set up for full-load test.
Sulzer Pumps has successfully built and tested the first of the world’s largest seawater injection pumps at its facility in Leeds (UK). Each of the four 27 MW (36,000 HP) HPcp 350-425 eight-stage pumps delivers 1,650 m3/h to a head of 4,664 m and is direct- driven by a Rolls Royce RB211 driver at 4,800 rpm. Each is mounted on a three-point-mounted frame complete with the gas turbine driver, seal and oil systems, instrumentation and cooling system. The whole package weighs around 120 tons. Sulzer Pumps’ commitment to the oil and gas market was demonstrated by the EUR 3 million expansion in its existing test facility that enabled the testing to take place.

Sulzer Euroflamm Bonds Carbon Friction Material in New Torque Converters (15/02/2005, Technical News)
Sulzer Euroflamm US, a Sulzer Metco company, was awarded an order from a US torque converter manufacturer for bonding carbon friction material onto torque converter clutch (TCC) plates for new transmission programs for two major OEMs. These transmissions go into SUVs and passenger car applications. A TCC improves fuel economy for automatic and continuous variable transmissions. The high-performance, carbon-lined TCC helps to improve vehicle drivability. Specially formulated carbon friction material enables shudder-free performance in a slipping mode. Sulzer Euroflamm US is currently bonding prototype parts for supplier and OEM testing. It is preparing for high-volume production, which is scheduled to begin in late 2005.
