| Continuous Production of Expandable Polystyrene (02/03/2004, Technical News) |

If plastic foam (e.g. Styropor®) is to be produced from polystyrene, a foaming agent will have to be added to the raw polystyrene. This results in an expandable polystyrene (EPS), which can then be expanded into polystyrene foam under the influence of heat.
A company based in Salavat (Russia) has ordered an EPS production system from Sulzer Chemtech, based on the latter’s well-proven static mixers. As a result, the previously discontinuous production process is replaced by a continuous process, while simultaneously making a considerable improvement to the product quality. More | |
