Judged by a panel of 50 automotive journalists from 22 countries, the “Engine of the Year Award 2003” in the cubic-capacity class above 4 liter has been assigned to the 5-l diesel engine V10 TDi by Volkswagen (VW). Part of the engine is Sulzer Metco’s cylinder bore coating solution. This coating makes it possible to avoid heavy, bulky grey cast iron liners, thus reducing engine size and weight. Furthermore, the plasma coating reduces the friction, thus increasing the efficiency. |
