World’s First Single-Stage Multiphase Pump
The new single-stage mulitphase pump
The new single-stage mulitphase pump
Typically, multiphase pumps boost oil production with relatively high pressures and flow rates. Multiphase pumps (MPP) for this operation usually have several stages. Recently however, the HPI market has demonstrated a need for a much smaller multiphase pump for various process applications.

Taking the knowledge gained from its MPP range of multistage multiphase pumps, Sulzer Pumps developed a single-stage hydraulic design, taking advantage of the well proven OHH bearing and shaft/seal assemblies. Tests in the multiphase lab in Winterthur (CH) confirmed the new design’s performance. The first units of this single-stage multiphase pump have now been sold and are currently in production for 2 separate customers. The new MPP-OHH pump opens up new process options for the market, as it is ideal for processes with gas content of up to 40% where separation is not desirable or practical.
