Improved Performance in Plastics and Elastomer Processing

Additives improve the mechanical and chemical properties of many plastics. However, materials such as glass fiber or colored pigments increase abrasion and shorten the service life of moulds and machine parts. The dismounting and repair of moulds and tools leads to outages and results in increased production costs.

With Maxit-Tool-Management, Sulzer Metaplas—a subsidiary of Sulzer Metco—offers a means of specially tailoring tools in accordance with process requirements. This concept enables the processes inside the tool and on its surface to be taken fully into account. The overall strength and ductility of the tool can be adjusted regardless of the surface hardness and the chemical processes on the surface. The subsequent Maxit combi-treatment adapts the surface of the tool to specific requirements. The combined application of surface heat treatment and coatings produces hard tool surfaces that are coupled with ductile cores. These coatings are mainly used for tools for the processing of various plastics and elastomers.
