MAXIT® CrN-mod: a special coating for plastics processing (22/08/2005, Technical News)
Due to their excellent anti-adhesive properties, CrN-mod coatings are especially suited to handle highly sticky molding materials like EVA and ABS. Their high coating hardness significantly reduces the amount of abrasive wear caused by hard fillers.
Maxit CrN-mod was developed by Metaplas Ionon (a Sulzer Metco Company) especially for processing of highly adhesive plastic and elastomer materials. The thin, specially doped cover coating of CrN-mod coatings forms a glass like structure with a very low degree of surface energy. This leads to highly wear resistant surfaces with an extremely weak tendency of sticking. The chromium nitride coatings (CrN) are deposited using the PVD arc process. CrN coatings have much better adhesive properties and lower friction levels than other classic hard coatings. In October, Metaplas Ionon is going to present Maxit CrN-mod at the Fakuma, an international trade fair for plastics processing, in Friedrichshafen, Germany.
