New Workshop in India (08/03/2006, Technical News)
Sulzer Chemtech division President Urs Fankhauser inaugurated the division’s new workshop, which is located at Kondhapuri, about 45 km from the city of Pune, in the summer of 2005. The new facility, which houses the trays and internals productions, was built in a record time of 175 days under the auspices of a team of dedicated Sulzer Chemtech engineers who at the same time managed the production of orders on hand. With the structured-packing lines additionally upgraded in the existing workshop area, Sulzer Chemtech India is now adequately set up to cope with future expansion.

Sulzer Pumps Strong in the Field of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) (02/02/2006, Technical News)
A LNG send-out pump on the test rig.
In response to the growing world demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) Sulzer Pumps UK set out to present the JVCR pump range to key contractors and end users and also to exhibit at major LNG shows. To date this approach has resulted in numerous enquiries and firm orders from the Far East and Europe. The most recent order—five off stage JVCR units for Zeebrugge LNG Terminal, Belgium—will be the largest high-pressure send out pumps of their type in the world at 1600 KW, eclipsing by some 200 KW the previous largest (also of Sulzer manufacture) installed at Botas LNG, Turkey, in 1994. The pumps will ‘send out’ LNG at minus 163 °C through vaporizers turning the LNG back into gas and through pipelines to the national grid.

Sulzer Innotec Offers Extensive Service Strength Analysis (05/01/2006, Technical News)
When developing machine parts exposed to dynamic loads, high fatigue resistance is an essential. Fatigue stress tests and various computer aided numerical methods are the two possible means to examine fatigue stress resistance. The numerical methods are primarily applied during the design phase, as they can detect potentially weak spots early on. The fatigue stress test mainly serves to secure the design. A numerical evaluation permits reducing the number of samples for the actual test. Sulzer Innotec offers the combination of both methods, which allows the customers to preevaluate the fatigue strength at an early stage of the development of a new part. This approach reduces the time to market for new products considerably.

Sulzer Metco Introduces the TriplexPro™-200 (07/12/2005, Technical News)
The new TriplexPro™-200 is also quiet in operation, reducing noise pollution for spray operations.
Sulzer Metco’s newest plasma spray gun, the TriplexPro™-200 has a range of capability not previously achievable by any other spray gun on the market. Efficiency throughput (deposit efficiency vs. feed rate of the coating material) is as much as four times better than conventional plasma spray guns. Previous spray guns of this design were highly suited for use in niche applications, such as high-volume Chrome Oxide coating of anilox rollers for printing machines. TriplexPro 200 has a wider application range, with capability to apply high quality coatings using the entire spectrum of plasma spray materials. These include metals, metallic alloys, superalloys, ceramics, carbides, cermets, blended materials, and composite materials.
