| E-Technology Allows Remote Witness Testing (03/08/2004, Technical News) |
The first official remote witness pump test was performed via Internet in the Sulzer Pumps Portland, USA, facility in April and viewed remotely by an engineering contractor who was located in England. The MSD pumps in this order are offshore water-injection units for installation in Nigeria. The remote-witnessing experience received positive feedback from the customer. This breakthrough will enable the migration of e-testing into other Sulzer Pumps manufacturing facilities. The system, which was developed in house, displays views from three individual cameras and has the ability to select and view a data acquisition screen including real-time performance data, temperatures official performance data and vibration measurement.

| Combined Treatments in Forming Technology (16/08/2004, Technical News) |
Metaplas Ionon has developed a surface modification process that significantly increases productivity in forming technology. IONIT® plasma nitriding and MAXIT® coatings are combined to optimize surface chemistry. The process can beapplied up to a maximum component length of 4000 mm. The benefits include good bonding to the substrate, excellent support of the coating, high strength, protection from microcracking, high ductility, and low surface energy. Applications range from die plates and punches to cutting tools. For example, MAXIT® CrN-modified coatings have shown excellent results in aluminum and copper alloys, zinc-coated sheets and stainless steels.

| Production Success for Sulzer Chemtech UK (30/08/2004, Technical News) |
Sulzer Chemtech UK received a large order from Snamprogetti on behalf of PARS Petrochem Ltd. for the delivery of MellapakPlus as well as internals for the world’s largest single Polystyrene-production facility. To satisfy the contractual requirement that the material be produced in England, Sulzer Chemtech set up a production facility in Aldershot, not far from its offices in Farnborough. A local company was assigned the project direction for the set production and closure of the manufacturing plant. The project was completed on schedule and was so successful that this model is currently under consideration as a basis for the completion of similar projects in the future.
