P.SOLID - Scratch Resistance for Mirror Polished Surfaces

P.SOLID is one of the most innovative approaches in plastic injection molding and extrusion molding for demanding high mirror polished surfaces. Both tools and molds benefit from its impressive scratch, wear and corrosion resistance. Even internal functional surfaces can be treated.

Information

P.SOLID - Diffusion coating

The high optical clarity needed on products, especially for plastic injection molding, calls for the use of highly polished surfaces. Sulzer provides a treatment that helps to shorten the polishing time while ensuring a maximum polishing luster.

Low surface energies optimize flow and minimize deposit adhesion while making mold cleaning significantly easier. The resistance to flaking and embrittlement prevents any visible surface defects in the produced plastic tools.

Reworking of conventional coated surfaces requires de-coating, refurbishing and the application of a new coating. A special feature is the fact that the internal functional surfaces of through and blind holes with a minimum penetration depth ratio of 5:1 can be treated. This makes the treatment particularly useful for multiple-cavity tools.

Typical application areas include the food and cosmetics industry, the packaging and automotive industry as well as medical technology.

Internal functional surfaces of through and blind holes can be treated successfully.

Properties

  • Surfaces with values up to 1,600 HV
  • Diffusion depth of 10–50 µm
  • Process temperature 380°C
  • Max. mold dimension that can be coated:
    • length 1,600 mm (63 inches)
    • diagonal 1,000 mm (39 inches)

Your benefits

  • No flaking - Re-coating after tool repair without de-coating
  • Improved surface finish luster
  • Internal functional surfaces of through and blind holes can be treated
  • Optimum supporting layer for highly stressed PVD or DLC coating
