Sulzer Pumps Houston (SPHO) received a large order to manufacture 20 pumps for the Southern Nevada Water Authority for installation at the Alfred Merritt Smith water treatment facility at the shore of Lake Mead. This facility can treat up to 600 million gallons (2.3 million m3) of water per day. This order represents the largest nonnuclear order ever received by Sulzer Pumps in the US.

The mixed flow pumps of the type 30KNC will be replacing the existing pumps while increasing capacity at the treatment facility.

Each unit is a 3-stage, 200-ft (61 m) long pump with a 1500-hp (1120kW) motor that is being supplied by Ideal Electric Co. Terms of the contract state that four pumps per month are to be delivered from March 2006 to June 2006. The pump components will be shipped to Lake Mead and installed by Sulzer and MMC Inc. of Las Vegas, the responsible contractor.

SPHO’s highly efficient hydraulic design combined with 100 years of experience, relatively short delivery schedule, and competitive pricing helped Sulzer win this contract.
