Fuel Cells for Natural Power Generation: Feasibility Study (25/05/2004, Technical News)
Sulzer Hexis develops fuel cell systems based on SOFC (solid-oxide fuel cell) technology. This type of fuel cell features relatively simple fuel processing, which allows a certain flexibility in the choice of fuel. Sulzer Hexis is currently testing its fuel cell systems with other fuels in addition to natural gas. Through the fund of its natural power program, the Swiss Axpo group is supporting a technical feasibility study on the operation of fuel cells on biogas. Within the framework of the project, fuel processing and its influence on the performance of the cell stack will be investigated and the technical feasibility of adapting it to different power ranges will be examined.
