Ecological Sustainability
The scarcity of resources, especially fossil energy sources, raises demand for sustainable products and services. Sulzer strives to make both production processes and solutions for the customers even more eco-efficient.
Key Ecological Targets and Achievements Targets Sulzer aims to reduce its ecological footprint by maintaining or reducing energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and hazardous waste production per net value added. Achievements The direct CO2 emissions and the energy consumption per net value added increased in 2010 by 17% and 18% respectively, mainly due to extensive product tests for large projects at some sites. In absolute figures, CO2 emissions and the energy consumption increased by 9% and 10%, respectively. Measures were initiated to improve energy efficiency. Hazardous waste per net value added increased by 24%, which is mainly due to specific site activities, such as reconstruction work, but also due to improved reporting and changes in the product mix.
