Sulzer Metco Introduces the TriplexPro™-200 (07/12/2005, Technical News)
The new TriplexPro™-200 is also quiet in operation, reducing noise pollution for spray operations.
Sulzer Metco’s newest plasma spray gun, the TriplexPro™-200 has a range of capability not previously achievable by any other spray gun on the market. Efficiency throughput (deposit efficiency vs. feed rate of the coating material) is as much as four times better than conventional plasma spray guns. Previous spray guns of this design were highly suited for use in niche applications, such as high-volume Chrome Oxide coating of anilox rollers for printing machines. TriplexPro 200 has a wider application range, with capability to apply high quality coatings using the entire spectrum of plasma spray materials. These include metals, metallic alloys, superalloys, ceramics, carbides, cermets, blended materials, and composite materials.

Sulzer Pumps: Important Order for Brazilian Refinery (07/11/2005, Technical News)
In July 2005, the Brazilian oil company Petrobras commissioned the Customer Service Support Brazil to retrofit two GSG boiler feed pumps installed in the RLAM refinery, one of ten Petrobras refineries in Brazil. Sulzer Pumps will also provide engineering support to modify piping lay out, and will supervise the project, the erection, and the start up. Petrobras’ main concern is to decrease or avoid shut downs on steam plants, to increase mean time between failure and the overall reliability. The order includes an upgrade of the sleeve bearings and the forced lubrication unit. Sulzer Pumps also delivers a speed control, two new base plates, automatic recirculation valves and monitoring instrumentation, as well as field service.

“Engine of the Year” includes a Sulzer Metco Coating (16/10/2003, Technical News)
Using technology of Sulzer Metco: the V10 TDi by Volkswagen (VW) is the “Engine of the Year 2003”, as employed in the Touareg and Phaeton car models.
Judged by a panel of 50 automotive journalists from 22 countries, the “Engine of the Year Award 2003” in the cubic-capacity class above 4 liter has been assigned to the 5-l diesel engine V10 TDi by Volkswagen (VW). Part of the engine is Sulzer Metco’s cylinder bore coating solution. This coating makes it possible to avoid heavy, bulky grey cast iron liners, thus reducing engine size and weight. Furthermore, the plasma coating reduces the friction, thus increasing the efficiency.

The World’s Largest Injection Pumps (17/11/2003, Technical News)
Forged and fully fabricated barrel casing weighing 10,000 kg for the world’s largest injection pump.
In November 2001, the Azerbaijan International Oil Company (AIOC) awarded contracts for the injection pumps for its Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli Full Field Development programme. Along with the associated Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, these projects are probably the world’s largest oil and gas developments today. AIOC invited three potential pump vendors to bid for the pump design and – after extensive evaluation – selected Sulzer Pumps Ltd. to manufacture, package and string-test these significant pump packages.
