Sulzer is reporting a high order intake of CHF 2 265.9 million for the first six months of 2008. This represents an adjusted1 increase of 14.9% and a nominal growth of 6.2% compared with the first half of the previous year. The order intake increase was driven by Sulzer Pumps, which achieved very strong growth in the first six months of 2008. In accordance with the ordinance of the Takeover Chamber of the Swiss Federal Banking Commission (SFBC) dated 29 May 2008, Rz (40) to (50), the Renova Group and Sulzer Ltd are to be considered a group for the purpose of disclosures of shareholdings within the meaning of Art. 15 SESTO-SFBC. Both parties must jointly release disclosures of shareholdings with effect retroactively to the agreement dated October 10, 2007, which governs the formal relationship between them.

Sulzer and Bekaert, based in Kortrijk, Belgium, today announced their intention to sign a takeover agreement for Bekaert’s diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating activities. With its leading DLC technology, Bekaert achieved sales of over EUR 15 million (over CHF 24 million) in 2007. The intended acquisition of this business with complementary technologies and geographical presence will expand and strengthen Sulzer Metco’s existing position in the thin coatings
market.

Sulzer Pumps has received a large order from Alstom Power for pumps to be installed in the new Medupi coal fired power station, being built for Eskom, the South African national generator. The order includes a total of 48 pumps for boiler feed, booster, and condensate extraction duties. In addition to the manufacturing of the pumps, Sulzer’s scope encompasses the full project management of the pump modules, including the related equipment, such as motors and couplings. The power station, the country’s first green field project in 20 years, will have an ultimate generating capacity of 4 790 megawatt. More | |

In the first quarter of 2008, Sulzer increased its order intake to CHF 1 134.6 million. This was an adjusted growth of 11.1% compared with the first quarter of the previous year. The nominal growth was 4.5% reflecting the weakening of major currencies against the Swiss franc. The growth was mainly driven by Sulzer Pumps, which had a very strong first quarter.
