Turbines and engines in the aviation industry are subject to extreme mechanical and thermal demands, and requirements for reliable and safe technology are particularly stringent.

An engine’s efficiency depends to a great extent on its design and operating temperature: the higher the temperature, the greater the operating efficiency. To ensure that all parts of a gas turbine function reliably, the fan, comp-
ressor, combustion chamber and turbine are protected with special coatings from Sulzer against oxidation, hot gas corrosion, erosion and wear. Sulzer’s modern thermal spray technologies, like the high-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) process, in combination with specifically developed tungsten carbide coatings, considerably increase service life of the hydraulic cylinders for landing gear.
