Sulzer Publishes Sustainability Update

(20/05/2009, News Release)
Further improvements in sustainability

Sulzer releases today the online sustainability update for the year 2008. Comprehensive figures for the economic, social and ecological dimensions of sustainability are published. Further improvements in sustainability have been achieved.

Sustainability is deeply rooted in Sulzer’s vision and strategy. The corporation monitors economic, social and ecological dimensions of sustainability with a tailored database and key performance indicators. New sites were added to the assessment, which covers now 89% of all Sulzer employees. In each of the three dimensions, improvements have been made. Findings show, for instance, that the occupational accident frequency rate was further reduced to 8 cases per million working hours (from 11 in 2007). This is in line with the corporation’s midterm aim to reduce the accident frequency rate to fewer than 5 cases per million working hours by 2010. For the ecological impact, energy consumption per net value added was reduced by 3% compared to the prior year.
